Last summer holidays I went to Cambridge in a 15 days course of English with E.F. I went there with some Portuguese I met at the airport.
We had English classes in the mornings, some optional activities in the evenings and lots of laugh at night (a group of students from all over the world slept in the residence of the school).
The classes were really good because teachers were always happy and they were more than teachers; they were our friends.
In free time I travelled to London and revised some monuments and places where I had been before such as Big Ben and Madame Tussauds. I also travelled to Stonehenge where I saw the megalithic ruin which stands on the open downland of Salisbury Plain, two miles (three kilometres) west of the town of Amesbury, Wiltshire, in Southern England. It is not a single structure but consists of a series of earth, timber, and stone structures that were revised and re-modelled over a period of more than 1400 years. I had the opportunity to visit Bath, in England, which is a unique city with its hot springs, Roman Baths, splendid Abbey and Georgian stone crescents which have attracted visitors for centuries. Set in rolling Somerset countryside, just over 100 miles west of London, it is a beautiful and unforgettable place to visit. I visited Canterbury too and a lot of places in and out of Cambridge.
When
we were out of classes and activities, we spent our time meeting each other in
the common room, travelling in Cambridge and doing other activities in the city
such as Punting and Bowling. The common room was a special room! There I met a
lot of people from Japan, Vietnam, Greece, Georgia, and from lots of different
countries. There I met some of the best friends someone can have and anyone can
forget.
People ask me if this travel was enriching. Well, I can say that it really was! Firstly I learnt a lot about the marvellous city of Cambridge. Secondly I heard and saw a lot more about U.K. as well as the way of living of people which is different from us in some ways. Thirdly I met a lot of wonderful people who told me so many stories about their countries and about their lives! The only thing I didn’t like was the end of the trip because it was when I knew we had to say goodbye! And unfortunately I know that I will not see a lot of people anymore.

Sónia Ferreira,10ºB I think that studying abroad is not just a new experience; it’s also an adventure for our lives. When I went to a summer course in England, more accurately in Sherborn, at first I thought that it would be just more one thing in my life. Actually, it became fantastic and important for my English, my culture, my skills and other things that I developed in my real sense of life. In my inner thought I want to go again for a foreign country because I feel more freedom and I am also more responsible for what could happen any time. My summer course was a particular situation, because we did a lot of activities. In the morning we had some classes and they weren’t boring; in the afternoon we had some activities, which were, for example, basketball, handball, aquatic polo, tennis, football and others. At night we also had entertainments such as disco and casino. If you have any opportunity to go to a summer course or something like this chance I just need to say to you one thing; GO AHEAD! |
Mariana Pereira,10ºB It was marvellous for me going to study abroad attending a summer course in Sherborn, near London. It was a fantastic adventure for me, because I could feel my own independence, living on myself and getting dexterity in speaking English. It was particularly important to develop my self-confidence. I could improve it a lot and I had also the opportunity to meet new and interesting foreign people. I liked Italian friends a lot and they became my real mates. Now, I send them e-mails and they answer me. I advise you having such a kind of experience like this one because IT’S WORTH! You can learn in a funny way with young and kind people. I’ll go back any time I can have the opportunity and I’ll call all my friends to go with me!

| João Oliveira, 12º H Mein Verhältnis zu meinen Eltern ist ganz normal. Mein Vater ist sehr still und meine Mutter ist sehr beschützerin. Manchmal habe ich Probleme mit meinen Eltern, weil ich sehr ruppig bin. Zu meinen Eltern ist Ausgehen kein Problem. Ich finde mein Vater intelligent und ruhig. Meine Mutter ist aktiv und sie weiβ immer, was ist mit mir los. Es gibt keinen Konfliktpunkt aber manchmal mögen sie nicht mein Aussehen, besonders mein Haar. Ich kann nicht mit ihren über alles reden, weil ich ein biβchen reserviert bin. Ich spreche lieber mit meinen Freunden. Ich bewundere an meinen Eltern, die Fleiβigkeit und ihre Liebe. Sie wollen alles gut für mich. |
Joana Yemi Pereira, 12º H Mir scheint, dass ich eine wundervolle Beziehung zu meinen Eltern habe. Meine Mutter ist zwar streng also fast immer kann ich nicht über meine Probleme mit ihr sprechen. Ich verstehe mich gut mit meinem Vater: er ist ein guter Freund und ich kann ihm viele Sachen erzählen. Mein Vater lässt mich bis spät ausgehen solange er weiβ wo ich bin. Glücklicherweise, mögen meine Eltern gern meine Freunde und sie finden sie sehr lustig. Zu Hause, sind die gewöhnlichen Konfliktpunkte Hausaufgabe und Ausgehen. Meine Eltern, die die beste Leute in der Welt sind, finde ich sehr wirklich. Ich erkenne, dass sie mich lieben und sie kümmern sich sehr um mich. Ich glaube sie haben viele Qualitäten, zum Beispiel das Verständnis und die Bescheidenheit. |
